To help rate your performance, it’s a good idea to consider the level of complexity of a change initiative that you manage. As a rule, a non-complex change initiative means clear objectives, low levels of risk and a limited number of interfaces and stakeholders. A complex change initiative, on the other hand, will typically have uncertain objectives, high levels of risk and/or innovation, and a large number of interfaces and stakeholders.

LEVEL ❶ AWARE
KNOWLEDGE
Has an awareness of the knowledge needed for the competence.
APPLICATION
As only awareness is required at this level, no application is expected.
LEVEL ❷ PRACTISED
APPLICATION
Applies the competence under supervision, primarily in noncomplex situations.
KNOWLEDGE
Has a working knowledge of, and can describe, the competence.
LEVEL ❸ COMPETENT
KNOWLEDGE
Has a comprehensive knowledge of the competence in situations of limited complexity.
APPLICATION
Applies the competence independently, primarily in situations of limited complexity.
LEVEL ❹ PROFICIENT
KNOWLEDGE
Has a detailed knowledge of the competence in complex situations and can critically evaluate and adapt as required.
APPLICATION
Applies the competence independently, primarily in complex situations.
Supervises others applying the competence.
LEVEL ❺ EXPERT
KNOWLEDGE
Has an in-depth knowledge of the competence in complex situations.
Can critically evaluate, adapt or develop new theories and/ or methods if required and educate others.
APPLICATION
Applies the competence independently, primarily in complex situations.
Recognised as an expert by other senior professionals, who is called on by others for advice on the competence.
