Wreaths Across America, an initiative to honor deceased veterans with wreaths every December at more than 4,200 locations nationwide, was a huge success at Filer, West End, Snake River Canyon, Rock Creek, Twin Falls, and Sunset Memorial cemeteries due to the dedication of many individuals and organizations. We separately thanked all the generous wreath sponsors, but also want to recognize the many volunteers who assisted with the ceremonies and wreath laying at these locations. Overseeing all the logistics were location coordinators Becky Lierman, Ann Petterson, Loraine Jordan, Jackie Basinger, Cliff Lockhart, Katie Bryant, Rich Frey, Will Endsley, and Greg Bryant in collaboration with the cemetery boards, Filer Cemetery Sexton Ron Klimes and Clerk Margaret Krasznavolgi, and Snake River Canyon Cemetery Manager Robert Looney.
In addition, State Sen. Linda Wright Hartgen, the Magic Valley Honor Guard, and Honor Guard Filer American Legion Post #147 and its Commander Dave McFerrin made valuable contributions to the ceremonies. Beverages and/or treats were provided at two locations by Filer’s Caffeination Station and by Kathy Marshall from Valley School District. Five Fishes Press donated printing services. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Young Men and Young Women, employees of First Federal Bank, members of veteran organizations and the Daughters of the American Revolution, and many other community members laid wreaths while thanking veterans for their service.
