Become an apprentice
Have you organised an event at school or college, or for a charity, a social event or even completed a piece of coursework as part of a group?
If you have, it is likely that you have used project management skills.
Every industry employs project managers or uses project management skills, although the responsibilities of individual project managers vary according to the type of organisation they work for and their position. Project management is a growing profession with good career prospects which is already well established in the construction, information technology and engineering industries. Employers in a wide range of other industries, including air transport, armed forces, charities, government departments, hospital trusts, financial services, retailers and rail transport, are also now recruiting project managers.
Am I eligible?
Level 4 standard
You will need to have achieved a minimum of grade C or above in at least 5 GCSEs including English and Mathematics, and hold a minimum of 48 UCAS points, or equivalent.
Organizations who recruit for Apprenticeship vacancies will have their own additional requirements.
New Level 6 standard
You will need to have achieved a minimum of 96 UCAS points and hold GCSE English and Mathematics, or equivalent.
Organizations who recruit for Apprenticeship vacancies will have their own additional requirements.
What's involved?
The Level 4 Associate Project Manager Apprenticeship will have a typical two year duration. You will take the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) (IPMA Level D equivalent) as an on-programme assessment during your apprenticeship.
Your knowledge, skills and behaviours learned as an apprentice will be assessed in an end-point assessment. This assessment is a presentation and professional discussion based on project management experience.
The Level 6 Project Manager Degree Apprenticeship will have a typical four year duration. You will take an IPMA Level D qualification as an on-programme assessment during your apprenticeship.
Your knowledge, skills and behaviours learned as an apprentice will be assessed in an end-point assessment. This assessment is a presentation and professional discussion based on project management experience.

- provides apprentices with the required knowledge and competencies to develop into a senior management role in many exciting industries
- helps apprentices develop transferable skills so they can progress in highly skilled careers
- allow apprentices to gain a nationally recognised BA/BSc (Honours) Degree Apprenticeship Standard
- enables apprentices to obtain an Internationally recognised Project Management Qualification. i.e the APM PMQ
- enables apprentices to become Full Members of the APM (MAPM)
- acts as a progression route for Apprentices into other APM qualifications.

There is no upper age limit for apprenticeships, so the scheme can be used to develop either new or existing staff.

The new Project Manager Degree Apprenticeship at Level 6 offers you the opportunity to develop further your more senior workforce as well as more recent entrants, which will be attractive to employers with levy funds to spend.

Develop your staff
Apprentices are employees and should usually be employed for at least 30 hours per week. As the employer, you would be responsible for paying their wages and providing training. Off-the-job training would usually be delivered by the employer or by an Apprenticeship training provider registered on the Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers (RoATP). When can I start employing apprentices?
You can hire an Apprentice at any time of the year as the programme runs on a rolling basis. There are no set times for exams and these can be booked when the Apprentices are ready to take them.

APM has been part of a Trailblazer employer group, led by Sellafield Ltd, which has designed a new Associate Project Manager Trailblazer standard at level 4, which is now available and replaces the previous Higher Apprenticeship level 4 in England.
