APM Board Trustee receives the British Empire Medal
Association for Project Management (APM) Board Trustee Milla Mazilu has been awarded the British Empire Medal in the New Year’s Honours list for her vital work during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Alongside her APM duties, Milla is the principal programme controls manager in Network Rail's Wales and Western Region. In 2020, she also began volunteering with the Royal Academy of Engineering on a project called COVID-19 African Rapid Entrepreneurs (CARE). The main aim of Project CARE was to support African engineering entrepreneurs to make and supply Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for use in hospitals and clinics in sub-Saharan Africa.
The BEM acknowledges Milla’s contribution to Project CARE, her dedicated service and significant involvement, as well as her wider role in the COVID-19 pandemic during which she has openly shared her expertise and has trained colleagues in the use of new technologies.
Describing her reaction to the Honour, Milla said: “I was so pleased to be able to use project management skills for the greater good, and to support an initiative as impactful as Project CARE. It was a complete surprise to be honoured in this way.”

Wow Milla - that's fantastic! Congratulations!! A great effort, for a great cause! Having visited sub-saharan African countries, I feel that we should help and encourage them as much as we can. Very proud of you for doing that.
That is awesome Milla. Many congratulations and I'm thrilled you have been recognized for your inspiring volunteer work.
